Peterbrooke’s first store opened in the quaint neighborhood of San Marco in Jacksonville, Florida in 1983. The neighborhoods always hold a Holiday Magic festival at Christmas time. All of the neighborhood retailers and restaurants offer complimentary samples to their patrons.

Unable to afford to give away pricey truffles as samples, Peterbrooke’s founder Phyllis Geiger got creative. She went to the neighboring theater and purchased popcorn. She covered the popcorn in delicious Peterbrooke milk chocolate and sampled it to her patrons.

The popcorn was a hit! The following day a customer came in and asked to purchase the chocolate covered popcorn. Phyllis explained that it was not a product. Three more customers came to Peterbrooke attempting to purchase the chocolate covered popcorn. On the fourth customer Phyllis replied, “It is a product”. She bagged the popcorn and the Peterbrooke chocolate covered popcorn legacy began.
